Speaking Test Part 4 PET

The English subject this year has introduced loads of new activities and resources to
students to improve their level, everything from game days to speed dating, the pupils
at Antigua Sexi are having a very entertaining school year!

For example, one of the most recent experiences was taking a speaking test. Similar
to the speaking section for the B1 exam, pairs of students had to hold a conversation
for around three minutes. In class, we were shown a few examples of actual speaking
examinations and were then left to choose our pairs. Within minutes everyone was
partnered with a friend and excited to start putting the English they have been learning in to use.

A bit of background: The unit we were on was related to music, we even watched a short
documentary about an English Music festival. To continue with this theme, the class was
provided with many questions and conversation starters related to music, topics ranging
from liking jazz to one’s favourite instrument. A week or so after all the material was
made available, the conversations started!

During our second recess, a few pairs would meet up with the English teacher in one of
the classrooms ready to start speaking. Each couple of partners was given a number of
topics and questions to touch on during their conversation. After a bit of preparation,
the students, albeit a bit nervous, began their music themed discourse, most of which
lasted past the three minute threshold.

Following this series of tests, each student felt what it is like to have a full conversation
in a foreign language, challenging their memory and fluency and engaging them with
something that everyone loves: Music!

To sum up, the students of Bachillerato got to participate in a very stimulating and
creative English speaking activity with the help of our teachers, giving us valuable
experience and knowledge.
